Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) in Leh, you will be warmly greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Since Leh sits at an altitude of 3,500 meters, it’s important to rest and allow your body to acclimatize to the thin mountain air to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Use this day to relax, hydrate well, and absorb the first impressions of the Himalayan landscape. In the evening, you may take a gentle walk to Shanti Stupa for panoramic sunset views or unwind with a cup of coffee at a local café in Leh. Overnight stay will be at a hotel in Leh.
Your riding adventure begins today! After breakfast and a short briefing session, you’ll meet your bikes and the support crew before heading westward into the enchanting Sham Valley. The route follows the mighty Indus River, with the first stop at Magnetic Hill to witness the curious optical illusion of gravity. Continue to the Sangam Point where the Zanskar River merges with the Indus – a dramatic confluence of colors and currents. Ride further through scenic villages and monasteries, including Likir, before reaching Lamayuru, a village famous for its ancient monastery and unique moon-like landscapes. Overnight stay will be at a hotel in Lamayuru.
After breakfast, you’ll begin your return journey to Leh, stopping en route to visit the peaceful Alchi Monastery, known for its 11th-century murals and spiritual ambiance. Continue your ride with a visit to Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a revered Sikh shrine nestled in the mountains. Enjoy the scenic ride back to Leh and settle in for the evening. Overnight stay will be at a hotel in Leh.
Today you’ll ride over the legendary Khardung La Pass, once considered the highest motorable road in the world at 5,359 meters. Pause at the summit for photographs and soak in the sweeping Himalayan vistas. Descend into the surreal landscapes of Nubra Valley, often called the “desert in the sky” due to its rare high-altitude sand dunes. On the way, stop to explore Diskit Monastery, which houses a grand statue of Maitreya Buddha overlooking the valley. Continue to Hunder, where you’ll witness white sand dunes and might even enjoy an optional camel safari on Bactrian (double-humped) camels. Overnight stay will be at a camp or hotel in Hunder.
This day promises adventure as you take the less-traveled Shyok route toward Pangong Lake. The ride takes you along the banks of the Shyok River, through rugged terrain, water crossings, and raw Himalayan wilderness. This off-road stretch is thrilling and scenic in equal measure. By afternoon, you’ll arrive at the world-famous Pangong Tso Lake, located at 4,225 meters. Known for its shifting shades of blue and its appearance in the film “3 Idiots,” Pangong is truly a breathtaking sight. Spend your evening by the lakeside, soaking in the serene atmosphere and star-filled sky. Overnight stay will be at a lakeside camp.
After an early breakfast, begin your ride back to Leh via Chang La Pass, one of the world’s highest motorable roads at 5,360 meters. The journey offers dramatic mountain views and several spiritual landmarks. Stop at Thiksey Monastery, which resembles Tibet’s Potala Palace and offers deep spiritual and architectural experiences. Continue to Shey Palace, the former summer capital of Ladakh. On reaching Leh, enjoy your final evening in the mountains—explore the bustling local market, shop for prayer flags, pashmina shawls, or simply relax and celebrate the completion of your ride with a hearty dinner. Overnight stay will be at a hotel in Leh.
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your onward journey. As you fly out of Leh, take with you unforgettable memories of conquering high mountain passes, exploring ancient monasteries, riding through otherworldly landscapes, and connecting with the raw beauty of the Himalayas.
